Sixties nostalgia
Sixties nostalgia brings memories
of fabulous, non computer animatedand non violent toys, made from sturdy
products and interesting materials, the amazing, unbelievable
Beatle mania and the British
invasion of pop rock music into America, and famous
people and actors creating unprecedented films and television series
that are still loved and watched to this day, and people doing things
in the world and having belief systems that were completely unheard
of until then!! Many refer to the sixties as “The
Swinging Sixties”, mostly due to the free and permissive attitudes
towards love that the baby boomer generation was part of.
Revolution
The Sixties were a time when the nation’s youth
were revolting against the conservative views originating prior to,
and to the extreme during the fifties the fifties, often called “hippies”,
and using peace signs and flowers as symbols of love and peace.
Youth
The young people in the Sixties encouraged many
lifestyle changes, pop culture, and education issues that we are still
experiencing to this day. A permissive attitude and a “Make Love not
War” slogan surrounding an abundance of riots and demonstrations against
the Vietnam War are remembered with nostalgia
from the teenagers of the sixties. Teenagers began developing the idea
that they did not necessarily have to do what everyone had done before
them, and that they could in fact pave their own way and create their
own destinies.
Famous deaths that are remembered to this day,
President Kennedy’s assassination in
Texas in 1963 and is felt worldwide, and Winston Churchhill’s death
in 1965 and also, the famous death of Winston Churchhill in 1965.
Many incredible events
took place during the sixties, Russia had the first man to successfully
enter space, America sent the first man to land on the moon, the first
publication of the Sunday Times, and the launching of Telstar Communications
Satellite.
The Toys
Toys of the sixties are
now considered antiques, and can be sold for great sums of money if
you have any in good condition. Many sixties toys are still around today,
often in newer, altered versions for modern day children to play with,
and unfortunately, most of the newer versions of toys are not constructed
with the same long lasting, quality materials, and shortcuts are often
made during production which alters the quality of the toys. Barbie
and Matchbox cars are among the sixties toys that are just as popular
in today’s world as they were when they were invented during the sixties.
Food also underwent some
major changes during the sixties, particularly in the United Kingdom.
Many of the decades fast food restaurants offered
curbside dining; where individuals could order food directly from their
cars- either by placing their orders to a waitress who comes to your
window, or by speaking into a small speaker set up to take the order
and deliver it to the kitchen through radio frequencies.
Fashion
As people became more health conscious, more
and more people turned to vegetarianism during the sixties, and refused
to eat any products that came from the killing of animals. As fashion
models became skinnier, women and young girls started developing eating
disorders as they tried to mimic the look of the popular models of the
decade, and often wouldn’t eat much at all! Eating disorders became
quite common during the sixties, thanks to the new, more revealing fashions
and choices of advertising executives made in the types of models who
would show off their new mini skirts, tight clothing and revealing tops.
